Wellness journeys across India

आराम और आरोग्य

Yoga at dawn, oil on the skin, nothing on the schedule

Wellness here is much older than the word. Ayurveda through the Kerala monsoon, ashtanga on a Rishikesh terrace, silence in a Himalayan valley, and long treatment mornings followed by nothing at all. We work with licensed clinics and small ashrams, and we protect your afternoons from sightseeing.

The shape of it

What a wellness journey looks like

यह यात्रा कैसी होती है

A wellness journey in India is mostly an exercise in subtraction. In Kerala the traditional season is karkidakam, the monsoon month from mid-July, when humidity opens the pores and clinics run panchakarma courses of a week or longer: abhyanga with warm medicated oil, then shirodhara, a thread of oil poured across the forehead until the mind stops arguing. Around Kumarakom and the Vembanad backwaters the treatments come with kanji, rice gruel with coconut and cumin, and long afternoons on a veranda. Rishikesh is the other pole. Ashrams along the Ganga near Ram Jhula teach from half past five in the morning, the International Yoga Festival fills Parmarth Niketan each March, and the aarti at Triveni Ghat closes the day. Higher up, Dharamshala and the Tirthan Valley offer walking, cold rivers and Tibetan meditation courses above McLeod Ganj. Mysuru remains the home of ashtanga vinyasa, taught in Lakshmipuram and Gokulam ever since Krishnamacharya's students settled there. In Maharashtra, Kaivalyadhama at Lonavla has been teaching since 1924 and was the first institute to put yoga practice under laboratory study. In Wayanad and Bekal, doctor-led programmes run on daily consultation rather than a spa menu. We check credentials, book real physicians, and keep each day to one treatment, one practice and one walk.
