Nothing is sold on this website. A trip becomes real when we have written you a quote, you have said yes to it, and we have confirmed it in writing — and it is that written confirmation, not this page and not a chat message, that says exactly what you are getting.

Who you are dealing with

01

DEVGAMAN is the trading name of Devgaman Tours & Travels, a tours and travels company based at C-Scheme, Jaipur, Rajasthan 302001, India. In these terms, “we” and “us” mean that company, and “you” means the person who asks us to plan or book a trip — and, where you are booking for other people, everyone in your party, on whose behalf you confirm you are authorised to agree to this.

You need to be eighteen or over to make a booking with us.

What this website is

02

A brochure, and an unusually detailed one. It exists to show you what a journey through India could look like and to start a conversation. It is not a booking engine:

  • there is no account to make, no basket and no checkout;
  • nothing on it takes a payment, and no page here asks for a card number;
  • the enquiry form and the planner do their work in your own browser and then hand the finished message to WhatsApp, Telegram or your mail app. You read it before it goes, and you can change every word.

We keep the routes, distances, seasons and descriptions as accurate as we can, and we correct what we find wrong. India still changes faster than a website: a road washes out, a monument closes for restoration, a festival moves with the lunar calendar. Nothing here is a promise about a place — the promise is in your written confirmation.

Prices, and why they say “from”

03

Every price on this site is indicative and per person, and is a starting point for a real quote rather than an offer we are bound to. Unless a quote says otherwise, prices assume two people sharing a room, and they move with the season, the class of hotel, the size of your party, the vehicle and how far ahead you book.

  • A single traveller pays more per head than a couple. A family of six usually pays less.
  • International flights are not included unless a written quote says so. Domestic flights, trains, permits and entry fees are included only where the quote lists them.
  • Prices are quoted in Indian Rupees. If you pay in another currency, the amount that lands is subject to your bank’s rate and charges, which are not ours to control.
  • Taxes are as they stand when we quote. If a government changes a tax, a permit fee or a fuel levy before you have confirmed, we requote honestly rather than absorb it in silence.

Once your confirmation is issued and the deposit is paid, the price in it is the price. We do not add surcharges afterwards for currency movements or fuel.

How a booking is made

04

Four steps, and the third one is the one that matters:

  1. You tell us the shape of it. Dates, days, who is coming, what you cannot miss. This costs nothing and commits nobody.
  2. We send a written quote. A day-by-day route, where you sleep, what is included, what is not, and the total per person. A quote is normally held for seven days, because rooms and trains are not.
  3. You accept it in writing and pay the deposit. A reply saying yes to a specific quote, followed by the deposit, is what makes an agreement between us.
  4. We issue a written confirmation. That document — the itinerary, the inclusions, the price, the payment schedule and the cancellation terms — is the contract. Where anything in it differs from this page or from something said in a chat, the confirmation wins.

Until the confirmation exists, nothing is held. Hotels, trains and permits are booked after your deposit reaches us, not before, so please do not buy international flights around a plan we have not yet confirmed.

Payments

05

Payments are made against the written quote, to the bank account or UPI details printed on it, and never against a message. We do not take card payments on this website, we do not send payment links over chat, and we will never ask you for an OTP or a PIN. If a message claiming to be from us does any of those things, it is not from us — call the number on our contact page before you send anything.

Typically a deposit confirms the booking and the balance falls due some weeks before you travel; the exact split and the exact dates are on your confirmation. A booking made close to departure is usually payable in full. If a balance is not paid by the date on the confirmation, we may treat the booking as cancelled by you, and the cancellation terms below apply.

Bank charges, remittance fees and currency conversion costs are yours; the amount we receive is what counts.

If you change your plans

06

Ask. Before anything is booked, changes are free and frankly expected — moving a fort, slowing the middle, adding a rest day. After confirmation, we will always try, and what it costs depends entirely on what our suppliers charge us: a hotel that lets a date move for nothing, an airline that does not, a train ticket with its own cancellation scale.

We pass on supplier charges at cost, plus a reasonable amount for the work of rebuilding the booking, and we tell you the number before we do anything. Transferring a booking to a different traveller is sometimes possible and sometimes not — trains and flights are the usual obstacle.

If we have to change the plan

07

Sometimes India decides otherwise. A pass closes with early snow, a monsoon takes out a road, a permit is refused or withdrawn, a strike shuts a highway, a festival date shifts, a hotel loses power, a monument closes, a driver falls ill, or the safe thing is simply to go the other way. When that happens:

  • we tell you as soon as we know, rather than at the hotel desk;
  • we substitute something of comparable standard — a hotel of the same class, a route of similar length, a sight of similar weight;
  • if the substitution genuinely costs less, we refund the difference;
  • if a change before departure is so significant that it is no longer the trip you agreed to, you may accept it, take an alternative we offer, or cancel and be refunded what we have not already paid away on your behalf and cannot recover.

Minor changes — a room on a different floor, the order of two days swapped, a different but equivalent vehicle — are part of travelling in a real country, and we make them without ceremony.

Where the cause is genuinely outside anyone’s control — weather, flood, landslide, earthquake, fire, epidemic, war, civil unrest, terrorism, strikes, government or military orders, permit regimes changing, airport or airspace closure — we are not liable for the disruption itself, though we will do everything practical to get you moving and to recover what can be recovered. This is what travel insurance is for.

Cancellation and refunds

08

The cancellation scale that applies to you is printed on your written confirmation before you pay anything, and it is the one that governs. What follows is how it generally works, so there are no surprises when you read it.

  • Cancellations must reach us in writing — email is best — and take effect on the day we receive them, not the day you decided.
  • The deposit is usually non-refundable, because by then it has been spent: rooms held, trains ticketed, permits filed.
  • Closer to departure, more of the trip has been paid away on your behalf, so more of it is unrecoverable. The scale on your confirmation says exactly how much, by date.
  • Some elements are non-refundable from the moment they are booked whatever the date — most air tickets, some festival-season hotels, permits and entry fees. Where that is true, the confirmation says so.
  • Unused parts of a trip — a night you skip, a sight you decide against, an early departure home — cannot be refunded.
  • Refunds go back by the route the money came, in Indian Rupees, normally within fourteen working days of us agreeing the amount. Bank and conversion charges are deducted as incurred.

We may cancel a booking if the balance is not paid, if we are prevented by events outside our control, or if going ahead would be genuinely unsafe. If we cancel for any reason that is not your non-payment, you get back everything we have not irrecoverably spent on your behalf, and we would rather offer you an alternative date than a refund and a shrug.

What you are responsible for

09

The short list, because each one has ended somebody’s trip before it started:

  • Telling us the truth about your party. Names exactly as they appear in passports, real ages, and any medical, mobility or dietary condition that affects what we can book. A name that does not match a passport will stop you boarding a train or a flight, and correcting it later costs money.
  • Reading your confirmation and your itinerary when they arrive, and telling us within seven days if anything in them is wrong.
  • Being where you said you would be. Airport transfers, trains and permits run on times you have in writing.
  • Your own belongings — passports, cameras, medication, phones — in vehicles, hotels and stations.

Passports, visas and permits

10

Getting yourself legally into and around India is your responsibility, not ours. We will tell you what we know, we will file the permits that a tour operator files, and we cannot be liable for a refusal or an expired document.

  • Passports generally need at least six months of validity beyond your date of entry, and two blank pages.
  • Visas. Most nationalities need one, often the Indian e-Visa, applied for before travel on the official government portal and nowhere else. Requirements change; check them close to departure.
  • Inner Line Permits. Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram and parts of Sikkim, Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh require an Inner Line Permit, and some areas need a Protected Area Permit. Rules differ for Indian and foreign passport holders, some permits must be applied for weeks ahead, and authorities can refuse or withdraw one at any time for reasons they do not have to explain. Where a permit is part of your trip we apply for it and chase it; if it is refused, the change-of-plan clause above applies.
  • Restricted places. Some border districts, military areas, tribal areas and inner temple precincts are closed, or closed to cameras, or closed to non-Hindus. Your guide will tell you; please take them seriously.

Insurance and fitness to travel

11

Travel insurance is a condition of travelling with us, not a suggestion. It should cover medical treatment and repatriation, cancellation and curtailment, baggage, and any activity you are actually going to do — trekking, riding, rafting, and altitude in particular. Many policies exclude travel above 3,000 metres unless you have added it, and half of the Himalaya is above that.

High altitude. Ladakh, Spiti, Sikkim and the high passes take you above 3,500 metres, sometimes above 5,000. Acute mountain sickness does not care how fit you are; it can be serious, and evacuation is by road or not at all. Our high-altitude routes build in acclimatisation days, and skipping them is not something we will agree to. If you have heart or lung conditions, are pregnant, or are travelling with very young children, take medical advice before you book and tell us what it says.

Fitness generally. India is uneven ground, long drives and a great many steps. Wheelchair-friendly and slow-paced trips are entirely possible and we plan them gladly — but only if you tell us at the start, because it changes the hotels, the vehicle and the route. Tell us about mobility limits, dietary needs and medication early and honestly; we will plan around all of it without comment.

Conduct on the road

12

You are asked to respect local law, local custom and the people looking after you: cover shoulders and knees in temples, take shoes off where everyone else does, ask before photographing a person, and never photograph inside a shrine that says not to. Indian drug laws are severe, and nothing we can do will soften them.

If someone’s behaviour puts other travellers, our staff or our suppliers at risk, or makes their work impossible, we may end that person’s trip. No refund is due in that case, and getting home is at their own cost. This has never happened and we do not expect it to.

Hotels, airlines, drivers and guides

13

We plan your journey and we book it, and much of it is then delivered by other companies: hotels, homestays, camps, houseboats, airlines, Indian Railways, bus operators, car and driver services, local guides, boat and activity operators. We choose them with care, we use people we know, and we do not take you anywhere on commission.

Their own terms apply alongside ours — an airline’s conditions of carriage, a railway’s cancellation rules, a hotel’s check-in policy and damage terms — and some of those limit their liability by international convention. Where a supplier fails, we will help you claim, press them on your behalf and stay on the phone until it is sorted.

Our liability, and its limits

14

We take responsibility for the parts of your trip we arrange, and for doing our own job with reasonable skill and care. If we get something wrong, tell us and we will put it right.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. Your rights under Indian consumer law, and any mandatory consumer rights you have where you live, stand whatever this page says.

Beyond that, and to the extent the law allows:

  • our total liability for a booking is limited to the amount you have paid us for that booking;
  • we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses — missed connections onward from your trip, lost earnings, missed events;
  • we are not liable for events outside our reasonable control, as set out in the change-of-plan clause above;
  • we are not liable for loss or damage that your travel insurance is there to cover, or for the acts of third parties you engage yourself while travelling.

If something goes wrong

15

Tell us while you are there. Almost everything — a room that is wrong, a guide who is not working out, a car with no air conditioning — can be fixed the same day if we hear about it the same day, and cannot be fixed at all a month later. The number on your itinerary is answered while you are on the road.

If it is not resolved on the trip, write to hello@devgaman.com within twenty-eight days of getting home, with your booking reference and what happened. We acknowledge within seven working days and give a considered answer within thirty. We would much rather settle it with you directly than have either of us anywhere near a court.

The words and pictures on this site

16

The writing, the design, the illustrations, the maps and the itineraries here are ours, and they took a long time. Read them, quote them, send them to a friend, plan your own trip from them. Please do not copy them wholesale into another travel company’s website — which happens more than you would think, and is easy to spot.

The photographs are lead images from Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons, used under their own licences and credited on our about page. They show the place, not a promise: your room, your weather and your light will be your own. If you hold rights in an image and we have credited it wrongly, write to hello@devgaman.com and we will correct or remove it.

Governing law and jurisdiction

17

These terms, and any booking made under them, are governed by the laws of India. The courts at Jaipur, Rajasthan have jurisdiction over any dispute between us.

If you live somewhere whose law gives you mandatory consumer protections or a right to bring a claim locally, that right is yours and this clause does not take it away. And if any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest of them still stand.

Changes to these terms

18

We may update this page — new rules, a clearer sentence, something a lawyer improves. The version that applies to your trip is the one in force on the day your booking was confirmed, and it is attached to your confirmation. Changes here never reach backwards into a trip already booked.

Questions about any of it, before you book or after: write to us or email hello@devgaman.com. A person in Jaipur will answer.
